Thank You All

Hello Hunters!

Welcome to the first update of the next phase of this campaign.

Thanks to all the backers that pledged on the first Vampire Hunters Kickstarter. Although we halted that project before it was completed, your clear support and suggestions enabled us to come back in strength.

Thanks to the backers that pledged on this campaign. Vampire Hunters simply could not have been made without you. We hope we will make you proud of what you have helped create.

Thanks to the backers that gave us moral support. You lifted our spirits with your comments each day. Your suggestions, whether ad lib or in the Get in the Game updates, were wonderful. So many of you either had ideas that we were already working on in secret, or had ideas that we wished we had ourselves. It reinforced our belief that we had a great game with a strong theme when we all shared one vision.

Finally, thanks to all of you that will take Vampire Hunters out of your game’s cupboard to play it. Ultimately, we are making a game to be played. The highest honor will be that it is on your table.

We may take a short break. But we will be back with regular updates soon. Until then ...

Good Hunting!

Relics and Vampire Lords
over 7 years ago – Sun, Aug 21, 2016 at 04:55:33 PM

Hello Hunters!

This is our final rules update. I’d like to think we have saved the best for last! We will be talking about the goals of the Hunter’s Campaign: creating a Relic and Defeating the Vampire Lord.

Relics are new objects, like Equipment and Items. However, Relics are not represented by one card. You must collect the broken parts of the Ancient Relics that the Creatures of the Night have carefully collected and smashed, as well as other powerful objects the Night have hidden away in their Dens. You collect any parts you can find, but you are not reassembling them into the same Ancient Relics. The Night has done too good a job of scattering the fragments. But the Order can carve, reshape, forge and otherwise assemble what you find into something new, but equally powerful. You will be wielding Relics never seen before.

All Relics must have at least 3 parts:

  • Shaft: handle, grip, etc.
  • Weapon Head: blade, mace or hammer, etc.
  • Holy Item: Saint’s clothing, body part, etc.

When combined, the Order can create a powerful weapon with a unique property (we’ll come to that later). We said at least three parts, you can use up to 5 cards because it is sometimes possible to have 2 Weapon Heads and two Holy Items:

  • Shaft + Weapon Head + Holy Item
  • Shaft + 2 Weapon Heads + Holy Item
  • Shaft + Weapon Head + 2 Holy Items
  • Shaft + 2 Weapon Heads + 2 Holy Items

The description of each card will say whether multiple card use is possible, but one rule can never be broken: you only use 5 parts at the most.

When you combine them, they contribute to the overall statistics of the Relic:

  • Shaft: Range.
  • Weapon: Dice and accuracy. For multiple cards: Add the dice, use the worst accuracy.
  • Relic: Special power. For multiple cards: All special powers can be used, if you can pay the Focus cost for them. Although the Relic is a weapon, these powers may be unrelated to attacking.

To show a Relic in your play area, you overlap the cards you are using. Each card has details of how to use the part, but the stats are written at the edge where it is easy to see when the cards overlap. Here are some cards:

Here is a card that can be used two ways. The Order can make it into two different parts of your Relic, it’s your choice. Simply rotate the card so you can read the text for the option you want:

To use the cards on a Hunt assemble them into a Relic. Make sure you have at least 3 parts that can be used together by reading the text on each card. Then stack the cards on top of each other with the stats showing. Here’s an example:

So that was 3 cards used together, but we said you could use more in some circumstances. This next card can always be added to the stack as the second Relic, regardless of the restrictions on the cards you are using. You could add that too. Now the Relic has two Special Abilities.

We spoke about gaining these cards as part of the rewards given out in the Campaign storyline. Different Campaigns will handle giving the cards out in specific ways. However, the first three draws will allow you to get 3 different cards: first draw a Holy Item, then a Shaft, etc. The remaining rewards will be Campaign specific, for example telling you to make a random draw or naming a specific card to take. Whatever happens, the Campaign will enable you to get 3 parts (so long as you win enough Hunts).

You can see that longer Campaigns will give you more options. If you excel on a Campaign that has 6 or more Hunts, you may even be able to assemble two Relics!

Generally, the Campaign will tell you the Order has crafted the Relic just in time for the Final Battle. You will only use it in this one Hunt.

There will be some additional rules, here are some highlights. If the Hunter carrying the Relic is killed, the Relic is dropped in his area. Due to its holy power, Hunters can easily find it. It is an Action to pick it up.

Turned Hunters can wield the Relic and try to kill the Vampire Lord, trying to take the Lord’s place. A Relic is the only item a Turned Hunter can use. Turned Hunters holding a Relic take one wound at the end of their activation.

Special Rules for Vampire Lords

Vampire Lords are the most powerful of the Elder Vampires. They are extremely rare and there is seldom more than one Lord active at once. Kophas is the Vampire Lord in the core game.

Kophas is a suitably imposing miniature, 60mm or 2.4 inches tall.

All the rules for Elders apply to Vampire Lords, for example they use Elder Influence Cards too. In addition:

  • Although they dislike sunlight and rarely walk in the day, it has no effect on them. They are cloaked in the Night everywhere.
  • They are too large to be affected by the Extractor.
  • They all have a regenerative ability.

The regenerative ability has two effects. Out of the game, it allows the Lord’s followers to reanimate them. The evil rites of the Night are not fully known to the Order, but there are records of Vampire Lords thought to be long destroyed returning to lead the Creatures of the Night.

The other is an in-game effect. All Lords have the Regenerate X ability:

Regenerate X: When a Lord is reduced to 0 Health Points, end the attack immediately and adjust the Lord’s Wound Tokens so that the Lord now has X Health. This Health is extracted from creatures in the environment. All Hunters in the same area as the Lord, and the Hunter that made the attack (if that Hunter is out of the area), all take 1 Wound immediately. Dead worms and rats litter the floor.

Different Lords will have specific values for X, Regenerate 4, Regenerate 6, etc.

Vampire Lords and Relics

Remember we said Relics had a unique property up above.

Well, we did not tell you the whole truth about Regeneration, because it sounds like you can’t kill the Lord. If you strike the killing blow with a Relic, it cancels the Regeneration effect. So, now you know why you need to create a Relic and also why the Creatures of the Night have been breaking them and hiding the parts.

You’ll need to carry the Relic into the fight against the Lord and make sure it is used in the Attack that reduces the Lord to zero health. Only then will it be destroyed!

Now you are finally ready for the ultimate battle. Good Hunting!

Something Wicked

Hello Hunters!

Great going! You have unlocked Najida and she will be included in all Slayer pledges.

Najida made her own leather armor, styled after the ancient League of Assassins, and converted her teenage parkour skills into a unique fighting style before she came to the Order’s attention. Taking on Vampires one by one in the back streets of Cairo was no substitute for the training the Order gave her, but she remains one of the most agile Hunters: When Najida destroys a Vampire, she may move one Area (not an Action).

We hear you calling for more Vampires! The next stretch goal is a little more than a miniature. How much more? Raise $440K and we’ll tell you.

Good hunting!

Minions
over 7 years ago – Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 03:39:23 PM

Hello Backers!

Less than 24 hrs to go, we are approaching the end. We will not be posting any more Optional Buys, so you can plan your final pledge now.

You have unlocked Eten and her Book of Blood!

Nete was a white witch, healing with herbs and bringing villagers together with love potions. Every formula was carefully recorded in her Book of Life. She lived just outside the hamlet, near the graveyard. She could easily harvest her ingredients in the fields and woodlands and at night, she secretly tended the graves, keeping them clean and beautiful. Especially that of her dead husband, who passed too young at 18.

The villagers were no fools. They accepted her broken-hearted obsession and knew her spells were just quackery. Back then, people took care of their own. Still, sometimes the herbs helped with toothache and someone had to tend the graves. It wasn’t all charity.

When the Night swept through, she was the first to be turned.

The boiling corruption coursing through her body has inverted Nete. Now a powerful Elder with the full power of Influence, Eten reads backwards from her Book of Blood as she repels and harms Hunters in her vicinity.

Eten includes a dedicated deck of 10 Elder Influence cards and a rule sheet explaining how to use them. Her retail price will be $15, but she’s included in your rewards.

Minions are useful! With all these updates going out, I could use one. If we get to $450K, we will boost these minions included in the Slayer Pledge.

Let’s be clear. These 6 minions are only being given to Slayer backers and they do not boost the related boxed sets. These are simply extra minions for Slayers who already have the ID cards, etc. This is the last Slayer Only Stretch Goal.

Here’s a peek at more trouble coming. It’s big, in all meanings of the word.

Good Hunting!

Lend Me a Hand

Hello Hunters!

That was the fastest unlock ever!

Slayer Rewards will include 6 extra minion Vampires. I hope they do your bidding.

Next, some new Combination Attack Cards. Not just new combinations, but a new idea. If you unlock the $465K Stretch Goal, you will unlock 5 new Combination Attack Cards that allow an active Turned Hunter to team up with a Vampire or another Turned Hunter to make an attack! Why should Hunters get all the fun?

We know 5 does not look like many, but Vampires do not co-operate or plan well and these cards are more like simple mob attacks.

Beware! Kurivan is coming!

Good Hunting!
